Aurelian D. Mohan and Andrada C. Baba, the current United Nations Youth Delegates of Romania, organized a two hour-long conference with the main aim of disseminating accurate information about climate change and its impact on the environment. In addition, the event focused on bringing to the forefront the effects of climate change on Romania and its natural environment.

The conference brought together not only the E.U. Youth Delegates of Romania, Francesca Cristea and Artiom Radu, but also a solid assortment of experts in climate change. Exempli gratia, the UNYDs of Romania had the honor to present the following speakers:

a) Roxana Bojariu, PhD, Member of the Department of Climatology of the National Meteorological Administration;

b) Alessio Menegazzo, Director for Sustainability and Institutional Affairs of Enel România.

c)  László Borbély, The leader of the Department of Sustainable Development of the Romanian Government

d) Paul Șerbănescu, the Chief of the Strategy and Program Bureau of the Environmental Fund Administration.

Context

The alarming global context in relation to climate change has motivated us, the UNYDs of Romania, to disseminate the importance of the Sustainable Development Goals (of the UN Agenda 2030) No. 7 and Bo. 13. In other words, the aforementioned global problem can only be solved through international cooperation, mutual understanding, and well-defined strategies. For instance, Romania has a specific set of responsibilities that can foster better mechanisms capable of protecting the climate. The aforesaid speakers described during the conference not only the current progress of the Romanian Government in terms of reducing greenhouse gases, but also outlined the future steps we have to undertake in order to protect our environment, the status quo related to the effects of climate change on the local and national weather patterns, the efforts of various NGOs from the field, and the most important techniques through which private companies can protect the environment.

As a result, all speakers concluded that environmental protection and climate change should be of major interest for the young generation; youth must be prepared to continue recent endeavors in the field and to further global enterprises aimed at reducing greenhouse gases.

The conference gathered more than 50 young people interested in climate change and had an extended Q&A session during which guest were allowed to ask the panelists as many questions as possible. In this context, both UN Youth Delegates believe that the event was successful in disseminating UN values/information about relevant SDGs/the Romanian strategy in the field, in debunking myths about climate change, and in emphasizing the significance of the topic for the general public and policymakers alike.

During the break of the aforementioned event, Aurelian and Andrada gave an interview for the radio station entitled Radio Romania International. The audio can we accessed here:
